Children's ProgramsBecause growing up in a home where there is parental abuse of alcohol or other drugs can lead to lifelong problems, Aldie provides children's programming to assist kids in understanding the disease of addiction and in developing more adaptive coping skills. We also offer parents the kind of training and experiences required to assist them in raising happy healthy children. Aldie offers a number of programs and services geared to assisting children learn the skills and develop behaviors that will create a happpier, healthier life. Our goal is to provide a safe forum for children to learn on their level, to allow self expression, and to foster a sense of self in a social setting. Children's programs include: Child/Family Therapy This treatment modality includes structured family therapy and filial play therapy. an action-oriented, child-centered exercise in which parents and children interact in the playroom in order to facilitate warm and supportive parenting relationships, better communication and limit setting, and the clarification of personal boundaries.
These programs utilize age appropriate group activities which lead to self-discovery, improved self-esteem and an increased sense of controll while at the same time the children learn invaluable information regarding stress and anger management, methods for dealing with peer pressure, and the harmfull effects of substance abuse. Childcare Trained personnel care for children in the playroom, enabling parents to attend counseling sessions. Parenting Workshops Child-centered parent education workshops teach basic parenting skills which foster the child's self esteem, including structure and limit-setting, listening and speaking skills, developmental expectations, parenting styles, and the impact of substance abuse on family systems and the child. Parents are assisted in dealing with developmental changes and problematic behiavior. Worksops can be scheduled at Aldie or other sites for interested groups. |
